We can incorporate greenery into our communities spaces by integrating plants and natural elements into everyday areas such as HDBs. This includes adding rooftop gardens, vertical green walls, using natural materials such as bamboo, and community planters in HDB estates. Architects can design shared spaces like void decks, walkways, and playgrounds with trees, shrubs, and garden features to create a more inviting environment. Green roofs on car parks and shaded seating areas also help reduce heat and promote relaxation. Involving residents in gardening activities or community farms creates a connection to nature and social bonding. As Gary Snyder, an environmental activist, said, “Nature is not a place to visit, It is home.” These green efforts not only make our living areas significantly more beautiful, but also improve air quality and enhance overall well-being and happiness, making our neighbourhoods more sustainable and enjoyable places to live.
